We are delighted to introduce our newest expert to you.
Bonnie J Hacker MHS, OTR/L is a pediatric occupational therapist with extensive experience working with children with sensory processing disorders. Bonnie received her undergraduate degree in occupational therapy and her graduate degree in pediatric occupational therapy from the University of Florida. For the past 30 years, Bonnie has been in private practice in the Chapel Hill-Durham area of North Carolina. In 2001, Bonnie began Emerge-A Child’s Place, a state of the art pediatric clinic that provides both occupational and speech therapy.
Most of the children who are referred to Emerge – A Child’s Place are experiencing behavioral and/or social challenges, secondary to a sensory processing disorder. Emerge-A Child’s Place focuses not only on effective interventions, but also parent education. Many parents have traveled a long and often frustrating road before they learn about sensory processing/integration and how it is impacting their child.
Bonnie is the single adoptive parent of two hard to place children, both now grown and the proud grandmother of an on-the-go three-year-old grandson. Bonnie knows first hand what it is to struggle with dyspraxia, defensiveness, gravitational insecurity, and ADD. That has afforded her an unusual level of understanding and empathy with the children and families in her care.
Bonnie is a co-author of The Carolina Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers With Special Needs and A Therapist’s Guide to Pediatric Assessment.
