“William, thank you so much for joining me here at Welcome to Normal. As you know, many parents of children with autism spend a great deal of emotional energy worrying and self-doubting, always fearful that we are not doing what we should, or not doing everything we can, for our kids. We also struggle with the pressure to make our children conform to social norms, while wanting them to feel loved just as they are. I think sometimes we can get so caught up in the labyrinth of trees that we miss the beauty of the forest. If you could sum up the most important part of parenting a child on the spectrum, from your perspective, what would that be?”
