Yvonne N Pierre: If You Don’t Know Her, You Should!

[fbshare]I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Yvonne N Pierre on her show on BlogTalkRadio. I shared my early experiences with adopting my daughter with special needs and what inspired me to found S-O-S Research. Through this interview and previous conversations and emails, I have been fortunate to get a glimpse into Yvonne Pierre. I know I have only touched what is the surface of Yvonne, but what I have viewed is profound and inspiring. I want to share a bit of her story today.

Yvonne’s early years were clouded with sexual abuse, alcohol addiction, and troubles in school. These experiences would have immobilized most individuals, but for Yvonne, they contributed to building an astonishing mother, author, advocate, business owner, and radio personality.

As if Yvonne’s early tribulations were not enough, she ended up as a young mom without the ability to get a job. To complicate matters, nine years after the birth of her first son, Yvonne gave birth to a second child with Down Syndrome. Overwhelmed with her life, Yvonne battled her weight and could see no end to her pain.

Miraculously, in the midst of her anguish, Yvonne realized that forgiveness was her path to change. Forgiveness of not only others, but also of herself, provided her with a renewed confidence and attitude. Her life began to have more meaning and joy.

Today, Yvonne is the proud mother of two sons, Zyair who is 17-years-old and Zyon, her 8-year old with Down Syndrome. Her journey has led her far from the abuse of her early years. Outside of being a mother, she is involved in a number of diverse activities surrounding the special needs communities.

Have Ya Heard

Yvonne founded Have Ya Heard (HYH) Online in 2004. First, it provides an online experience for families of children with special needs through a virtual club. Next, a free emagazine is available honoring the achievements of those with special needs. Finally, HYH offers clothing that promotes a positive disability awareness and books on many special needs topics.

Radio Talk Show

In January 2008, Yvonne launched a radio talk show hosted by BlogTalkRadio (BTR). One short year later in 2009, BTR nominated Yvonne’s show as one of its top inspirational shows. In her first two years of conducting interviews, there have been over 50,000 downloads.

Yvonne’s shows are one-on-one discussions about advocacy, personal growth, special needs parenting, and more. She has interviewed people like Traci Bisson, founder of The Mom Entrepreneur Online Support Group and business owner of Bisson Barcelona; Dr. Kevin Ross Emery, author of Managing the Gift : Alternative Approaches for Attention Deficit Disorder; and David Wilde who went undiagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) until adulthood and who is now an ASD advocate. All previous shows can be heard on demand.

Memoir

In the summer of 2010, Yvonne self-published her inspirational life story entitled The Day My Soul Cried: A Memoir. In it she chronicles her troubled early years, the loss of her father, and the many other experiences that contributed to her spiral down. But she shares her transformation and how she pulled herself up and out of despair to become a proud mother and a productive business woman. You can read the first chapter of her book for free here.

Yvonne’s life story will encourage and motivate you. As you read her book and you travel her incredible journey, don’t forget that she is only 38. I can only imagine what Yvonne will bring us next!
